NFC
Geartracker supports NFC tags to allow you to track your equipment by scanning them with your phone. You can add an NFC tag to each item in your collection and scan them with the Geartracker mobile app. This allows:
- Inspectors to record inspections
- Technicians to record maintenance
- Users to verify that the equipment is up-to-date and safe to use
This avoids having to search for the item in the app using its serial number or name.
Additionally, it allows anyone to verify that the equipment is up-to-date and safe to use, even if they don’t have access to the Geartracker app. Simply scan the NFC tag with a phone to see the latest inspections and maintenance of the equipment.

PC and Mac
Section titled “PC and Mac”On PC and Mac, you can use an external NFC tag reader compatible with your computer to scan NFC tags. Make sure the NFC tag reader you’re using is compatible with the NFC tags you’re using and with your computer.
We also sell NFC tag readers in our online store, which are specifically designed to work with the Geartracker app. You can find them here. They are configured by us to work with your English keyboards.
These small readers act as a keyboard, just place your cursor in the search field of the Geartracker app, and scan the NFC tag for the corresponding item to appear.
However, they do not allow you to link new NFC tags because they cannot write to NFC tags, they only read them. To link new NFC tags, you will need a phone or tablet compatible with NFC technology.
Here is the configuration to use for NFC tag readers on PC and Mac:
- Reader type: External NFC tag reader compatible with your computer
- Output format: Hexadecimal, reversed order, for your language keyboard (e.g., QWERTY for English keyboards), with ; or : as separator between bytes (e.g., 04:0A:1B:2C:3D:4E or 04;0A;1B;2C;3D;4E)
